The Love I Chose
There’s a difference between the love that happens to you and the love you consciously choose.
One finds you. The other asks you to stay, to build, to grow, and to keep choosing each other through whatever comes next.
Why I Chose Him
I met my husband at a time when I was beginning to understand, that the kind of love I wanted wasn’t necessarily the loudest or most intense.
Sometimes it’s the love that brings a sense of peace within you.
He was a simple man, calm and quiet most of the time, but his actions spoke for him.
He saw me once and knew I was home, yet he never tried to rush the timing of it. He simply let things unfold.
My heart felt settled, my soul felt comfortable, and somehow, I just knew.
This was the person I wanted to build a life with.
This love felt safe, it felt right, and I was ready to face whatever came our way.
The Love We’re Still Learning
There are parts of a person you only discover once you start sharing a life with them.
Marriage has a way of revealing the little things, the habits, the differences, the ways you communicate, and the ways you need to be loved.
And I think there’s something beautiful about knowing we don’t have to have it all figured out yet.
Maybe that’s another part of growing together, realising that love isn’t only about knowing someone as they are today.
It’s willing to keep learning who they are as they grow, change, and become new versions of themselves.
A Life That Is Still Mine
There’s something so beautiful about knowing that God brought two people together to become one, to build a life together and to honour Him.
But somewhere within becoming a wife, I realised I never had to lose those parts of who I am.
I can still be the same woman God was shaping long before I ever became a wife.
Marriage has given me a new place to grow, new responsibilities to carry, and someone to share the journey with.
But it hasn’t erased the person I was before I stood beside him.
I can be a wife, be fully present in our marriage, and still recognise the woman looking back at me in the mirror.
Marriage didn’t ask me to become someone else, it simply gave me another beautiful part of who I am.
What Marriage Has Taught Me So Far
I used to think marriage was the destination.
But over time, I’ve learned that it’s actually the beginning of a lifelong journey.
It’s not like in the movies, where it’s candlelit dinners every night and perfect kisses in the rain.
Sometimes it’s heavy silence. It’s sleeping back to back after a disagreement. It’s bills, laundry, mood swings and tired days.
But through it all, it’s still choosing each other, over and over again even on the days when love feels more like a decision than a feeling.
It’s two imperfect people holding each other a little tighter through the storms, learning to forgive, and refusing to walk away when challenges come.
I believe that even the roughest patch is just a chapter, not the end of the story.
Marriage has really taught me that love was never meant to be perfect.
It’s about continuing to choose each other through every season of life.
