Things I Don't Explain Anymore

For a long time I always thought that if someone had the wrong idea about me, I needed to correct it.

If someone questioned a decision I made, I felt like I had to explain why.

If someone didn’t understand something about me, I would find myself trying to make them understand.

But somewhere along the way, I just stopped.

Not because I’m hiding something.
Not because I’m ashamed of anything.
And not because I don’t have an answer.

But I simply don’t feel the need to give one anymore.

I can tell my story without having to defend every part of it.

And honestly, that changed a lot for me.

I’ve stopped feeling like every decision I make needs to come with a story attached to it.

Sometimes I make a choice because it feels right for me.

That’s it.

It doesn’t always need to be something everyone agrees with. It doesn’t need to make sense from the outside.

And it certainly doesn’t need to be explained over and over until someone else is comfortable with it.

Because people will form opinions based on what they see, what they hear and sometimes what they assume.

I could spend my time correcting every little thing, explaining every detail and making sure everyone has the full picture.

But I don’t want to live like that.

Not every assumption needs correcting.

And not every opinion needs attention.

Some Things Are Just Mine

I used to think being open meant being willing to explain everything.

Now I see it differently.

I don’t need everyone to see things the way I do.

People don’t always need to understand my side for me to be at peace with it.

I know my reasons, and that’s enough for me.

Some things don’t need a defence.
Some things don’t need more explanation.
Some things can simply be mine.

And maybe that’s one of the quietest freedoms I’ve found.
